"All coffee professionals have their ah-ha coffee moments when tasting and discovering something new. The first time I tasted a coffee from Ecuador was one of those moments for me tasting beautiful florals, dried fruits, and deep complexity I had only experienced with Geshas or coffees from Ethiopia. For years we have been trying to find that coffee in order to share it with you all. We think we have found it from a producer named Pepe Jijon, who is nothing short of a man of mystery and legend driven by passion and pursuit of harmony with nature. I have been trying to buy his coffee for a couple of years now drooling over Finca Soledad's Instagram page. Pepe has a pretty strict rule of only selling to people that have visited his farm...occasionally he makes an exception with a promise. I bumped into Pepe last year in Chicago at the SCA convention. I asked if he would sell me some coffee, he said I had to visit first...over a few exchanges on Instagram and a promise from me to visit his farm, Pepe sold us some of his precious Typice Mejorado, which is one of our favorite varieties. We had hoped to release it at Christmas, but didn't have enough for that release. It is with great honor that we get to share his coffee with you.
